GAME DEVELOPER - USER INTERFACES AND EXPERIENCE

ABOUT ME

Born in 1999, I've had many years to experience a wide selection of games and learn from them. My early years began in Egypt where I was born , and during this time there were very few methods to acquire games to play at home so most of my free time was spent in the internet cafes with my brother where we would play Red Alert 2 from day till night. It was during these times that my love for games was first sparked. It wouldn't be till a few years down the line when I realised that I'd wanted to make videogames and have people play my own creations.

I decided to learn  how to make games in my own time. I  as many other children did at the time first began making games on Scratch, but I also decided to learn through modding existing titles. This taught me the fundamentals of game theory through learning about economy, balancing and player experience. Fast forward a few years I decided during secondary school to take up fine art which gave me insight into composition and arrangement of subjects in a frame.

In 2023 I graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Greenwich having studied Games Design and Development (Programming). The time I spent studying there helped me realise what I truly wanted to do, and gave me the skills I needed to help pursue my dream. With a keen eye for composition from my days painting in art lessons to my understanding of player experiences from my modding, I decided to focus on the aspect that always present in a game to some extent no matter the genre.

User Interfaces are a critical element in the design of any game and directly have an effect on User Experiences, as such leading to job titles of UI/UX design. Even a decision to have minimal UI in a game requires a lengthy design and testing process to ensure the player's experience never dips into an area that makes playing the game feel tedious. This process is what I am deeply intrigued & interested in, and furthermore what I want my career to focus on.

Currently I have no experience in industry, but soon will hopefully have a chance to change this.
